ACCOUNTANT JOB
JOB SUMMARY
The Position is responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of the General Ledger and all Subsidiary Ledgers, adherence to International Accounting Standards and managing Internal Controls, taxation compliance and supervising of accounts department staff.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Records
Ensure that the General Ledger and all Subsidiary Accounts are compliant with Group Rules per the Financial Reporting Manual (FRM) and International Accounting Standards (IAS).
Prepare Financial Statements per IAS and co-ordinate statutory audits with External auditors.
Reporting & budget Process
Participate in the Reporting Process
Assists in preparation of monthly Reports
Provide explanations for variances between Budgets and Actual.
Participate in annual budget process for both Target and Estimate Process
Book Closing
Co-ordinate the Book Closing process
Ensure timely, accurate and reliable records.
Audit & Control
Perform Risk Reviews of internal systems and processes to safeguard Company assets.
Carry out internal audit reviews to evaluate compliance and effectiveness.
Introduce and Implement new Controls where controls are lax,
Liaise with Internal and External auditors and respond to queries, observations and recommendations.
Tax Compliance
Confirm compliance with Local Taxation rules
Maintain relationship with Kenya Revenue Authority.
Staff Management
Managing overall work process of the department
Ensuring effective work assignment and supervision
Facilitate staff development to ensure the availability of a competent and well-motivated staff
Other Tasks
Carry out Inter-Departmental and Intra-Departmental training on Accounting Procedures and Internal Controls.
To participate in departmental meetings and give support to staff.
Participate in ad hoc business projects
Attend regular management meetings
Qualification
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business related field.
MBA in Finance will be an added advantage
Must be a qualified accountant, holder of CPA or equivalent and a member of a recognized accounting professional body
Computer knowledge with practical use of accounting systems essential.
Experience
At least 3 – 5 years progressive practical experience at a management level.
Experience in using ACCPAC accounting system will be an added advantage.
