KARI’s Mission is to contribute to increased productivity, commercialization and competitiveness of the agricultural sector through generation and promotion of knowledge, information and technologies that respond to client demands. The range of the Institutes’ research programmes include; crop research, research on livestock health and production, land and water management, biotechnology and socio-economics and biometrics. To achieve its mandate and strategic goals, the Institute has 24 main research centers and 8 subcenters located throughout the country and coordinated by its Headquarters located on Kiptagat Road, Loresho, Nairobi.

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANTS, RI. 8 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/110
Three (3) Posts

Job Description
This is the entry grade into the Accounts cadre. Work at this level involves:-

Drafting and handling routine correspondences
Verification of accounts
Sorting and despatching mails and other correspondence documents.
Data entry and processing.
Any other duties assigned
Minimum Job Specification
For appointment to this grade, one must have:-

Attained CPA I or its equivalent or any other related and equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
Certificate in Accounting Computer Applications

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT RI.8 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/111
Two (2) Posts

Job Purpose
Responsible for all matters relating to efficient, effective and sustainable engagement, utilization and improvement of the Institute’s human resources, including the development of succession planning systems

Key Tasks
This is the entry grade into the Human Resource Management officer’s cadre. Work at this level involves:-

Drafting routine correspondences
Control/Verification of staff compliment/establishment
Payroll preparation
Registry administration
Supervise Clerical Officers and other support staff
Any other duties assigned.
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to this grade, one must have:-

Diploma in Human Resource/Personnel Management OR Industrial Relations from a recognised institution
Computer literacy

SYSTEMS ANALYST/PROGRAMMER II , RI. 9 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/112

Key Tasks
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:-

Coding and testing computer programmes according to instructions and
specifications prepared by senior officers
Performing technical and systems documentation tasks as assigned
Facilitating and training of computer systems users, operators, supervisors and managers
Any other duties assigned
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to this grade of Systems Analysts/Programmers I, one must have:-
A Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Science or
any other related and equivalent qualifications from recognized Institution

CATERING OFFICER III, RI.8 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/114

Job Purpose
Provision of clean habitable conditions and maintenance of high standards of catering services in the Institute

Key Tasks
Duties for this grade shall include the following:-

Costing of food
Assisting in menu planning
Maintenance of linen, furniture and beddings
Keeping of records of Hostel and catering stores
Booking of visitors
Storage, and issue of food stuff
Requisitioning of food and beverage rations for the day
Supervision of food and beverage service
Daily sales reconciliations
Any other duties assigned
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to this grade, one must have:-

Certified medically fit to handle food (a valid Certificate of Health) from an recognised institution
Diploma in institutional management.
Shown proven competence in duty performance and results

DRIVER III RI.4 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/123
Ten (10) Posts

Key Tasks
This is the entry grade in the Driver’s cadre. Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve:-

Carrying out routine basic checks and carrying out emergency mechanical repairs on the vehicle’s cooling and oil systems, electrical system, tire pressure, brakes, etc;
Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems in time;
Maintenance of accurate records such as work tickets, service records etc for vehicles assigned to them;
Driving the vehicle as authorized;
Timely reporting of incidents/accidents on the road
Observing traffic rules and the Institute’s transport policy
Carrying out messengerial duties like dispatching mails, parcels etc
Report and follow up on the servicing and repairs of assigned vehicles
Security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;
Safety of the passengers and/or goods therein and maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to the grade of Driver III, one must have:-

A minimum mean grade D in KCSE or its equivalent;
A current driving license free from current endorsements and valid for all of the classes of vehicles, which the driver is required to drive;
Passed the Suitability Test for Drivers
At least three (3) years previous satisfactory driving experience after obtaining the driving license;
Passed occupational test grade III;
A valid first Aid Certificate; and
A valid certificate of good conduct.

PLANT OPERATOR III, RI.4 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/124
Three (3) Posts

Job Purpose
Responsible for the operation of assigned machineries in order to ensure appropriate conduct of research activities and provision of services within the Institute’s mandate

Key Tasks
Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve:-

Carrying out routine checks on the Plant ’s cooling and oil systems, electrical system, tire pressure, brakes, etc;
Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of Plant systems in time;
Ensuring up to date documentation for Plant(s) assigned to him;
Operating the Plant as authorized;
Ensuring that the servicing and repairs due are done in time
Security and safety for the Plant at all times;
Safety of the persons and/or items therein and maintaining cleanliness of the Plant.
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to the grade of Plant Operator III, one must have:-

A minimum mean grade D in KCSE or its equivalent
Passed the Suitability Test for Plant Operator Grade III
At least three (3) years previous satisfactory operating experience after obtaining the certificate
Passed occupational test grade for plant operators
A valid first Aid Certificate
A valid certificate of good conduct

SECURITY OFFICER III RI. 4 – JOB REF: KARI/2/027/125
Four (4) Posts

Job Description
This will be the entry grade for security Officers. Duties and responsibilities at this level
include:-

Maintaining security checks within the Institute premises
Carrying out security arrangement of the Institute property
Coordinating investigative activities within the Institute
Making staff and security appraisal reports
Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Job Specifications
For appointment to this grade, one must have:-

KCSE certificate of minimum grade ‘D’ plain
Served for a minimum period of three (3) years within a reputable security firm
A valid certificate of good conduct from the Kenya Police.
