Machakos University College Massively Recruits Teaching and Admin Positions in Kenya




Machakos University College was established through a Legal Notice No. 130 of 5th September 2011. It is the successor of Machakos Technical Training Institute.
It is located 1km from Machakos Town along the main Machakos-Wote road.
The University College invites applications for the following positions:

(A) Teaching Positions

Requirements
Professor – REF. MUC/AA/14/001
  • An earned Ph.D. or its equivalent from a recognised university in the relevant field.
  • Minimum nine (9) years full time teaching experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, 3 years of which must be at Associate Professor level.
  • Evidence of supervision of at least two (1) Ph.D. and four (4) Masters students since last promotion required and scholarly related activities.
  • Minimum of five (5) publications in peer-refereed journals OR three (3) publications in peer-refereed journals plus two (2) chapters in scholarly books since the last promotion.
  • Evidence of continued research, dissemination and ability to attract external funds.
  • Evidence of leadership experience in a university, active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars and workshops.
Associate Professor - REF. MUC/AA/14/002
  • An earned Ph.D. or its equivalent from a recognised university in the relevant field.
  • Minimum six (6) years full time teaching experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, 3 years of which must be at Senior Lecturer level.
  • Evidence of supervision of at least one (1) Ph.D. and four (4) Masters students since last promotion required.
  • Minimum of four (4) publications in peer-refereed journals OR two (2) publications plus 2 chapters in scholarly books since the last promotion.
  • Evidence of continued research, dissemination and attraction of funds.
  • Evidence of continued research, dissemination and ability to attract external funds. of leadership experience in a university, active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars and workshops.
Senior Lecturer - REF. MUC/AA/14/003
  • An earned Ph.D. or its equivalent from a recognised university in the relevant field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years full teaching experience at university level three (3) of which as a full time a lecturer.
  • Evidence of supervision of at least three (3) Masters students since last promotion required.
  • Minimum of three (3) publications in peer-refereed journals OR two (2) publications and two (2) chapters in scholarly books since being appointed or promoted to lecturer.
  • Evidence of continued research, dissemination and ability to attract external funds.
  • Evidence of leadership experience in a university, active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Those from research institutes or equivalent organizations (outside university system) with an earned Ph.D., six (6) years research experience and at least five (5) publications in peer-refereed journals will also be considered.
Lecturer - REF. MUC/AA/14/004
  • An earned Ph.D. or its equivalent from a recognised university in the relevant field OR In some disciplines Masters degree holders with minimum three (3) years teaching experience at University level with a minimum of two (2) publications in refereed journals or two (2) chapters in scholarly books since the last promotion and evidence of positive progress towards award of a Ph.D. degree.
  • Those from research institutes or equivalent organizations (outside university system) with three (3) years research experience, three (3) publications and evidence of advanced progress in acquiring a Ph.D. degree will also be considered.
  • Evidence of continuing research activity in some disciplines
Assistant Lecturer/Tutorial Fellow – REF. MUC/AA/14/005
  • Masters degree in a discipline related or closely related discipline to the undergraduate degree and must have obtained a KCSE mean grade of C+ and above or equivalent.
  • Evidence for registration for Ph.D. and advancement towards acquiring is required.
  • Those with teaching/research experience at university/research institute and have completed Ph.D. research work/writing Ph.D. thesis will have an added advantage.
(B) Administrative Positions
Assistant Registrar (Academic Affairs) - Grade 12- REF. MUC/AA/14/006
  • Applicants must have a Masters degree in a relevant field plus 3 years administrative experience and have served as Senior Administrative Assistant or equivalent position for at least three (3) years.
  • Those with first degree and have at least nine (9) years administrative experience in academic affairs in a university will also be considered.
  • In addition, they must be computer literate.
  • Experience in students admissions, academic planning, administration and processing examination results at university level is mandatory.
Administration, Finance and Planning Division
(A) Hospitality Management Training Facility
 
Hotel General Manager – REF. MUC/AD/14/001
Applicants should be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a first degree in Hotel Management and a Masters degree in the same, management or closely related field from a recognized institution. In addition, the applicants should have at least five (5) years experience as a Manager in a large hotel and must be computer literate and a team player.
 
Accountant I Grade 11- REF. MUC/AD/14/002
Applicants should be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a first degree in business or closely related degree from a recognized institution. He or she must be CPA(K) by registration with at least three (3) years experience in accounting in a large organization. Must have skills in computerized accounting.
 
Hotel Front Office Manager - REF. MUC/AD/14/003
Applicants should be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a first a first degree in Hospitality Management or closely related discipline and a Masters degree in the same or closely related field from a recognized institution. In addition, applicants must have at least five (5) years work experience at a similar position in a large hotel. Must be computer literate.
 
Banqueting Manager - REF. MUC/AD/14/004
Applicants should be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a first degree in Hotel Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution with at least three (3) years experience in a similar position. Those with Master’s degree will have added advantage.
 
Marketing Manager - MUC/AD/14/005
Applicants should be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a business-related and a first degree in business and an MBA in marketing or closely related Master’s degree with at least (3) three years experience in a similar or closely related position.
Should be excellent communicators with computer literacy skills.
Executive Housekeeper - REF. MUC/AD/14/006
Applicants must be holders of KCSE mean grade C+ and above or equivalent and a first degree in Housekeeping or Accommodation Operations from a recognized institution with a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a similar position in a large establishment.
Those with Master’s degree will have an added advantage. Must be computer literate and a team player.
Food and Beverage Controller - REF. MUC/AD/14/007
Applicants should be holders of a KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent plus a Diploma in Food and Beverage Management with at least three (3) years experience in a similar field. Must be computer literate.
Executive Chef - REF. MUC/AD/14/008
Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and a Diploma in Food and Beverage Management with at least three (3) years experience in a similar position in a busy kitchen and must be computer literate.
 
Sous Chef - REF. MUC/AD/14/009
Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and a Diploma in Food and Beverage Management with at least two (2) years’ experience in a busy kitchen and should be a team player.
 
Concierge/Hostess - REF. MUC/AD/14/010

The applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and a Diploma in Human Resource Management or Front Office with two (2) years experience. Must be computer literate.

Front Office Supervisor – REF. MUC/AD/14/011

Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and a Diploma in Accommodation Operations Management with At least two (2) years experience in a busy establishment. Must be computer literate.
Telephone Operator - REF. MUC/AD/14/012
Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and a Diploma in Front Office operations with at least two (2) years experience in a similar position. He or she should have good communication skills.
 
Room Stewards - REF. MUC/AD/14/013
Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C- (minus) and above or equivalent and a Certificate in Housekeeping or closely related discipline from a recognized institution with at least two (2) years experience in a large hotel.
 
Cashier - REF. MUC/AD/14/014
Applicants should have at least KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and CPA 1 with at least two (2) years experience in a busy establishment and must be computer literate.
 
Laundry Attendants - REF. MUC/AD/14/015
Applicant should be holders of at least KCSE mean grade C- (minus) and above or equivalent and a Certificate in Housekeeping with at least two (2) year’s experience.
Must be computer literate.
 
(B). Health Unit
Clinical Officer E/F- REF. MUC/AD/14/016
Applicants must be holders of Div. II or KCSE mean grade of C+ and above or equivalent.
In addition, applicants must have the following:
  • Higher Diploma or equivalent in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution,
  • be registered with the relevant professional body and
  • have at least five (5) years relevant post qualification experience preferably in a busy medical institution.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to run the University College Clinic and to work at odd hours.
  • Must be computer literate.
Kenya Registerd Nurse CD - REF. MUC/AD/14/017
  • Applicants must have a KCSE mean grade of C+ and above or equivalent and be holders of a B.Sc. degree in Nursing from a recognized institution with a minimum of three (3) years experience as Kenya Registered Nurse in a busy hospital.
  • They should be holders of valid practicing license.
  • Diploma holders with KCSE minimum mean grade of C or above and five (5) years experience will also be considered.
  • Qualification in Theatre Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Voluntary Counseling and Testing will be an added advantage.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to provide out-patient nursing services at the University College clinic.
  • Must be computer literate.
Pharmaceutical Technologist CD - REF. MUC/AD/14/018
  • Applicants should be holders of at least KCSE with a minimum mean grade of C (plain) or its equivalent.
  • In addition, they should have a Diploma in Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution plus at least five (5) years work experience in a busy pharmacy.
  • Must be computer literate.
(C). Central Services
Registry Supervisor C/D - REF. MUC/AD/14/019
  • Applicants must have a KCSE mean grade of C+ and above or equivalent and be holders of relevant Bachelors degree/Higher Diploma in Archives and Records Management or equivalent.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Have three (3) years of service as Assistant Registry Supervisor Grade A/B or an equivalent post OR have CPS II or Diploma in Archives and Records Management or equivalent plus five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Must be computer literate.
Registry Clerk A/B - REF. MUC/AD/14/020
  • Applicants must have a KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above or equivalent and CPS II or Diploma in Archives and Records Management or equivalent from a recognized institution plus three (3) years experience in a busy registry.
  • Must be computer literate.
Terms of Service
The terms of service include basic salary, a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance among others.
Successful candidates will be appointed on permanent and pensionable terms.
Tutorial Fellows will be offered one (1) year renewable performance-based contract, subject to their satisfactory progress in their Ph.D. studies.
Their terms will be converted to permanent and pensionable once they obtain their Ph.D. degrees.
